Freight is one of the leading cost drivers of PCBs. An increase in DHL shipping rates will begin affecting board prices next month.
According to DHL, it will activate a Demand Surcharge effective Sept. 15, 2024 through Jan. 31, 2025.
The Demand Surcharge will be levied on Express 9:00, Express 10:30, Express 12:00, Express Worldwide, Express Envelope, Medical Express, Breakbulk Express, and Express Easy shipments.
Citing high shipment volume and increasingly unpredictable global trade challenges, DHL says its Demand Surcharge (also referred to as Peak Season Surcharge), will allow it to allocate additional resources and capacity where needed.
The Demand Surcharge will apply per shipment in USD per kg or lb (as applicable) and will be based on origin and destination.
