The reciprocal tariff of 10% that was set to expire today, July 9th, has now been extended to August 1st.
There are currently 3 types of tariffs in play:
a) Section 301 on items originating from China: (25%)
b) IEEPA (aka fentanyl tariffs): China (20%)
c) Reciprocal: all nations (10%)
The administration also announced that Thailand, Malaysia and South Korea—countries that produce printed circuit boards—will face a reciprocal tariff of 36, 25, and 25% respectively should no further negotiations occur before the August 1st deadline.
The news of these impending reciprocal tariffs may simply be part of high-stakes negotiations, but a 36% tariff for those items made in Thailand will be a big blow to the heavy PCB manufacturing investment made there.
The combination of already higher pricing, longer lead-times, and now a higher reciprocal tariff will continue to make China all that much more attractive.
